Democrats 'Standing in the Way' of Domestic Oil Production
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
By Susan Jones, Senior Editor
(CNSNews.com) - President Bush on Tuesday listed the steps his
administration is taking to help Americans squeezed by rising energy prices
and falling home values. Get going, he told Democratic leaders.
He emphasized that "Democratic leaders have been delaying action on offshore
exploration and now they have an opportunity to show that they finally get
the frustrations of the American people."
At a White House press conference, Bush urged Congress to follow his lead in
clearing the way for expanded offshore, deep-water oil drilling.
On Monday, Bush lifted a presidential directive banning leases on the Outer
Continental Shelf. But Congress needs to lift its own moratorium before
anything can happen.
With the executive order lifted, "This means that the only thing standing
between the American people and these vast oil resources is action from the
U.S. Congress." Congress passes an annual rider banning the leasing of
coastal waters, except for parts of the Gulf of Mexico and some waters off
the coast of Alaska.
Bush admitted that it will take time to bring the OCS oil online -- and that
makes quick congressional action "urgent."
"The sooner Congress lifts this ban, the sooner we can get these resources
to the ocean floor to refineries to the gas pump," he said.
Changing the psychology
President Bush said it's important to "change the psychology" that demand
will always outstrip supply.
It will take a while to get the offshore oil flowing he admitted. "But it
won't take a while to send a signal to the world that we're willing to use
new technologies to find oil reserves here at home."
Bush said there is no "immediate fix" or "short-term solution" to bring
gasoline prices down. "It took us a while to get here," he said. "And we
need to have a good strategy to get out of it."
He said releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, as House Speaker
Nancy Pelosi has demanded, does not address the "fundamental" issue.
"If we conserve and find more energy, we will have done our part to address
the global market," he said. Bush described the nation as being in a
"transition period away from hydrocarbons."
Democrats are 'standing in the way'
Democratic leaders are the only ones standing in the way of "responsible
deepwater oil and gas exploration to help reduce gas prices," House
Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio) said on Monday.
He issued a statement shortly before President Bush lifted the executive
order banning oil and gas leases on the Outer Continental Shelf.
"Republicans stand ready to work with the Democratic Majority to bring an
end to this outdated ban so we can reduce our nation's costly dependence on
foreign sources of energy, empower states and localities to make decisions
regarding energy exploration, and create thousands of good-paying jobs here
at home," Boehner said.
Boehner said lifting the ban on OCS leases is part of the Republicans' "all
of the above" energy plan to lower fuel costs.
The plan would increase domestic oil and natural gas production; improve
energy efficiency and conservation; encourage investment in alternative and
renewable energy technologies; and expand nuclear power.
"As American families and small businesses face record prices at the pump,
they are counting on their leaders in Congress to work together on reforms
to help reduce fuel costs," Boehner said.
" It is time for the Democratic leadership to heed the American people's
calls by lifting the ban on deep ocean energy exploration and allowing a
vote on the GOP's 'all of the above' plan to help lower gas prices."
On Tuesday, House and Senate Republican leaders were holding a noontime
press conference on Capitol Hill, where they will accept a petition signed
by 1.3 million Americans calling on Congress to take action now to lower gas
prices.

It seem that with a lot of prodding that the President and, perhaps, a
majority of the Republicans in the Congress are finally getting the messge:
"Stop talking and take action that is consistent with what you say." While I
wish that the President had not played the game of inviting Congress to make
the first move on opening up offshore drilling, his belated taking of the
first action more clearly exposes Nancy Pelosi and her like minded Democrat
obstructionists as being just that, politcal obstructionists who need to be
sent home following the November election. We can only hope that the
President and the real Republicans in the Congress, having finally found
their voices will continue to take action that matches their words and will
quit allowing Pelosi and Reid to set the agenda. |

He's so full of shit, there isn't enough room to bury it all.
The Dems have rightly stated that until the oil companies exploit all
the concessions they already have, there is no point in giving them more.

Do you always believe Fox News when they tell you offshore drilling will
fix the oil problem?
Do the math Bvall if you can. US has 2% of world reserves. US consumes
25% of daily production. We import 60% of our consumption. How long is
2% of reserves going to correct that? Don't you think we should keep
that for when reserves really are short just for national security?
Oil majors DO NOT want to increase supply, that's how they keep prices
up. That's part of the reason they invaded Iraq. To gain control of
supply. THERE IS NO SHORTAGE, WAKE UP BVALL. The Strategic Petroleum
Reserve is FULL.
Two main reasons for high gas prices, the Enron loophole dereg of oil
speculation, this is about 1/3 of the price. And the bush boy's plunging
dollar tied to Saudi oil. If you want the Saudis to keep pegged to the
dollar you have to give them more per barrel. That's the REAL reason
they want to attack Iran, because they are putting their oil on the
Euro. The Iran nukes is a big lie, hell they just helped Pakistan get
their bomb even though they're the terror training capital of the world. |

But what if the pollster asks, "Would you support offshore drilling if |
it didn't end up lowering the price of gasoline?" If they ask the
question right, hardly anyone would support the big oil solution. |

They don't get any. The cranks get all their money from Poll Taxing
Mufflers.
Which is mostly why the non GM morons even invented A.I.
micocomputers, fiber optics,
CD, DVD, PV Cells, Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Drones, Super
Batteries, Robots,
HDTV, Biodiesel, and Cruise Missiles. Rather than paying more taxes
to idiots.
