By "fool" I do not mean the originator of the parody, but you, the

There's this Daily Show segment were reporters go out into the streets
and show the cover of the NY'er to the uninitiated, along with the
question: What do you think the intent of this comic is? Now I don't
know what percentage of people indicated a complete misunderstanding
of the intent, but they found a few who thought that the NY'er was
trying to portray Obama in a negative light. A postmortem indicates
this is clearly not the case.
What makes matters worse is the Obama campaign's rapid response,
which, many gadflys have indicated, may have been a bit too rapid. My
take on it is that this was a moment of weakness when the Obama camp
thought that a rapid response would be a show of strength. Too bad
that it didn't stop to consider the source and the intent as well; It
thought that it would be better to address the irrational (but
expected) responses of people who don't know about the NY'er, and
missed the intent.
In a nutshell, Obama's condemnation of the comic makes him a) look
like he didn't get it as well (which I doubt), or b) look like he
actually *is* a terrorist!!! (which is where fools like pappy and
yourself come in) |
